My London Fashion Week Experience

Its funny how things work out sometimes. Ever since I started my hairdressing career I can always remember being really interested in the fashion side of it… fast forward 15 years and I’m doing my first season at London fashion week 😊

Don’t get me wrong I have done a lot with my hairdressing career over the years but fashion week has always been something I have wanted to do, so naturally when the opportunity came up to audition I jumped at the chance, travelled down to London to the Toni and Guy hair academy and put my all into my audition… Might I add it was 32°C at the time… what a sweat box!!

To cut a long story short I got the email through on my way back to Scotland informing me I had passed my audition, I was now on the label M session team and will be styling the hair for ss19 (spring/summer 2019) at London Fashion Week on the 14th, 15th, and 16th September …. Happy was an understatement 😊.

Back down to London. I ended up doing hair at 5 different fashion shows and each show was a completely different hair style. We had a short amount of time to get a large number of models ready…. one of the shows had 50!!! (gulp)

What an amazing atmosphere and sense of team work we had though, you never worked alone. At least 2-3 people on one model as it was always a race against time. The head of teams were great too showing us exactly what was expected.

I was lucky enough to be able to watch the shows once we were done. The models all looked fab and so professional, it was a real sense of achievement seeing them all ready and their hair in place. Watching people in the audience was a blast too I don’t know if it was because we were in London or if it was because it was fashion week, but the outfits people wore were soooooo extra!! I mean do they wear that every day? or was it for the cameras?!? Who knows but I loved it! anything seemed to go! I have also never encountered so many people wearing sunglasses inside before LOL.

So, after 3 long days of marching around London with a suitcase full of hair styling kit, that’s my first season over and done with… I’m choked full of the cold, have swallowed a tonne of hairspray and could sleep for a week… but I loved every minute of it!!

Big thank you to everyone involved. See you all next season

Lots of love
