10 Ways to Get Your Hair Ready for Summer

Oh my, it's that time again. I’ve said it once, but I’ll say it again, how quick is this year going! The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting, and summer is just around the corner. My fave time of year! But before you break out the sunscreen and beach towels, it's time to get your hair ready for the season. Don't worry though, because I've got you covered with these 10 easy ways to get your hair ready for summer!

1. Start with a Trim

First things first, it's time for a trim. Getting rid of split ends will not only make your hair look healthier, but it will also prevent further damage. Plus, shorter hair can be easier to manage during those hot summer days. Pick up the phone and call the salon to book your appointment now, summer hair prep step 1…. Completed it mate!

2. Deep Condition

Now that you’ve got rid of the split ends, it's time to give your hair some love. Deep conditioning treatments can help repair damage and give your hair a healthy shine. There are plenty of great options out there, but we love an Innoluxe treatment in the salon. It’s perfect for that ultimate hair treat, ask you stylist to add one onto your booking today.

3. Protect from the Sun

Just like you protect your skin with sunscreen, you need to protect your hair too! UV rays can damage your hair, causing it to become dry and brittle. Wearing a hat or using a UV-protectant hair product will help prevent this. Our favourite is Sebastian Trilliant. Not only does it protect your hair up to 260 degrees, it smells like a holiday in a bottle. What more could you ask for?

4. Switch Up Your Shampoo

Summer means more sweating and potentially more exposure to chlorine and salt water. Consider switching up your shampoo to help remove any build up from these elements. Make sure you pick a super hydrating shampoo as your hair will be thirsty after all that sun! We can’t live without our Wella Fusion shampoo, conditioner and mask, the perfect summer combo! Don't forget to rinse your hair thoroughly after a dip in the pool or sea!

5. Embrace the Beachy Look

Beachy waves are a summer staple. To get the look, spritz some Wella Texture Maker onto damp hair and let it air dry. If you have naturally straight hair, try braiding your hair while it's damp and letting it dry that way for some added texture then finish with Wella Drynamic for the ultimate beachy look.

6. Experiment with Hair Colour

Summer is the perfect time to experiment with colour! Go for a fun pop of something bright and bold, or a gorgeous pastel shade over blondes literally screams summer, and dark-haired beauties why not add a few subtle highlights to get that perfect sun kissed look. Book in for colour consult with your colourist they will be more than happy to give some advice and inspo on your perfect summer hair colour. Just remember to take good care of your colour-treated hair with moisturising shampoos and conditioners. Our go to is Wella Colour Motion

7. Protect Hair When Swimming

Chlorine and salt water can wreak havoc on your hair, so it's important to take precautions. Wet your hair with fresh water before swimming, and apply a leave-in conditioner or oil to create a barrier between your hair and the water if you can. A swimming cap is the best option but in all honesty we know you won’t be living your best mermaid dreams in a swimming cap so make sure you’re protecting your hair thoroughly with Wella Elements mask, rinsing the chlorine out after every swim, then spritzing on some Sebastian Potion 9 lite. Trust me your hair will thank you for it.

8. Don't Overheat

Hot tools can be damaging to your hair, especially when used frequently and incorrectly. Why not use the summer months to embrace your natural texture and avoid using heated tools as much as possible. If you must use them, be sure to use a heat protectant spray beforehand. I’m telling you Sebastian Trilliant heat protector is a no brainer.

9. Keep Hair Hydrated

Just like your skin, your hair needs hydration too. It might seem an obvious one, but a lot of people don’t, make sure you drink plenty of water and eat a healthy diet to keep your hair looking and feeling its best. You can also use hydrating hair products to keep your locks well-nourished all the products mentioned above will do the trick nicely.

10. Embrace the Messy Look

Summer is all about a more carefree and relaxed vibe. So don't stress too much about having perfect hair all the time! Ditch the straighteners and embrace the messy look with tousled beachy waves and undone braids. The perfect hot summer look that can take you from day to night.

And there you have it! Ten tips and tricks to get your hair ready for summer. Whether you're away on holiday hitting the beach or just enjoying some time outdoors, your hair will be ready for anything. So go ahead and let your hair down, it's summertime!
