8 Tips to Keep Your Hair Healthy This Winter

BBBRRRRRR……….BABY ITS COLD OUTSIDE!!!!!

We have found that our hair gets drier in the winter due to the dry heat in our homes and the cold winter air outside, so we have decided to put together some helpful tips and tricks below to combat dry winter hair, and keep it fresh and sparkly for the festive party season...

#1 TURN DOWN THE TEMP

We know that nothing feels better than waking up on a cold morning and having a piping hot shower, but this could be drying out your hair and skin. Hot water is stripping your hair and skin of moisture that keeps your hair hydrated. Turn down the temperature to warm or if you can stand it lukewarm, to keep your hair and skin moisturised.

#2 SHAMPOO LESS CONDITION MORE

Try only washing your hair 2-3 times a week instead of everyday, continuously washing your hair is stripping it of all its natural oils that are keeping your hair healthy, using a good sulphate free shampoo also helps your colour last all winter. We love REJUVENATING THERAPY OIL SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER BY LABEL.M. Make sure you’re not skimping on conditioner and lather it through your mid-lengths and ends.

#3 DEEP CONDITIONING MASKS

Be sure to invest in a good intensive hair mask and use it once a week. Either pop it on and wrap your hair up in a hot towel or cling film and leave it on for an hour whilst you’re watching your favourite programme, or for an even deeper treatment leave it on overnight. This will help keep your hair hydrated and looking super soft and shiny for your Christmas party. Our favourite is INTENSIVE MASK BY LABEL.M.

#4 OIL MASSAGE

The winter months can cause havoc with our scalp leaving it dry itchy and flaky… An easy way to stop this is using a natural oil like coconut oil or olive oil, and massage it directly into your scalp. This will increase the blood circulation and absorb some moisture. Rinse out the oil and shampoo, and condition your hair after, leaving your scalp flake free.

#5 DON’T LEAVE IT WET

Never leave the house with wet hair when its frosty and cold outside as this will cause your hair to freeze then break off!!

First make sure you protect your hair from any heat damage, by using a good heat protection spray or cream, then gently blow-dry it on a low heat setting, and use a good soft ventilated brush. This will let the air blow through the brush without trapping it in your hair and causing any damage.

#6 CUT THE CR*P

Make sure you book in with your stylist for regular trims, this is essential to keep your hair looking its absolute best. Whether you have long or short hair winter weather can make the ends of your hair dry and brittle. Regular trims will keep your hair in good condition and reduce the risk of split ends.

#7 WRAP IT UP

Protect your hair from the cold and wind by wearing a scarf or hat, a silk one is best… and no we won’t have the dreaded “hat hair”. A silk cap or wrap will eliminate friction which prevents breakage, locks in natural oils, and preserves hair styles… hello 5 day blow-dry!

#8 WELL BALANCED

Along with everything else eating a well-balanced diet full of vitamins and minerals will keep hair and skin looking radiant and healthy, also drinking plenty of water will keep you well hydrated which shines through in your hair and skin.

Take it from the professionals. When it comes to looking after your hair in the winter, hairdressers know best! Especially when they live in chilly Scotland! Follow our hair tips and you will be sure to have happy healthy hair this festive season that sparkles and shines on the dancefloor 😊
